Connecting Asana to import project boards

If you already run client work in Asana, you can pull those boards into Agency OS as projects, sprints and deliverables rather than retyping them. The import is one-time, not a live sync: after it runs, Agency OS is the source of truth and Asana can be retired for that client.

Connect Asana

1. In Asana, create a personal access token under your account settings.
2. In Agency OS, go to Settings › Integrations and add it under Asana.
3. Reopen the project import. Your boards now list.

Until the token is saved, any attempt to list boards returns "No asana credentials are stored for this workspace." That message means exactly this step has not been done. It is not a permissions problem and not a bug.

Import a board

Pick the board, preview the tasks it will create, then confirm. The preview is worth reading: Asana sections become sprints, and tasks become deliverables, so a board with no sections imports as one long sprint. Tidy the sections in Asana first if you want a cleaner result.

"Asana rejected the request: Not Authorized"

The token is saved but Asana refused it. Usually one of:

• The token was revoked, or belongs to a deactivated Asana seat.
• The board sits in a workspace or team your Asana user cannot see. Tokens inherit that user's access exactly.
• The board is in a different Asana organization than the one the token was made in.

Generate a fresh token from an Asana account that can open the board, and save it again.

Boards fail to load with a character error

If listing boards fails with a message about a character value greater than 255, the board or workspace name contains a non-ASCII character, such as a bullet, an em dash or an accented letter. We are fixing this. Until then, renaming the board in Asana to plain characters lets the import through.
